Are School Committee meetings open to the public?

Yes. In accordance with the State’s Open Meeting Law, anyone may attend a public meeting of the Boston School Committee. See the School Committee meetings page for details and schedule, or contact the School Committee office.

How can I participate in public comment? 

You may request to testify during the public comment period in advance of any meeting by contacting the School Committee office, or you can sign up at the meeting by speaking to the Executive Secretary. The School Committee meetings page provides guidelines for participating in public comment.

How can I find out what took place at a School Committee meeting? 

Summaries of School Committee meetings are posted on the meeting archives page or can be sent to you via fax or U.S. mail by request.  To schedule an appointment to listen to an audio recording of a particular School Committee meeting, please contact the School Committee Office.

Are School Committee Meetings televised?

Yes, but not live. The most recent School Committee meetings are rebroadcast on BPS-TV (Comcast Channel 24, RCN Channel 13) and webcasts are posted on the meeting archives page.

How can I invite School Committee members to an event?

School Committee members welcome the opportunity to attend school events and other activities in the district.  Please send or fax invitations in writing to the School Committee office at least two weeks prior to your event. 

How can I contact a member of the School Committee?

Please call the School Committee office and leave a message with our staff, or send a letter to the office. Your message or correspondence will be directed to the appropriate School Committee member(s).  Members' individual email addresses are also posted on the School Committee member pages.
